The Anxiety Coaches Podcast - Relief from Anxiety, Panic, and PTSD

Over-dependence on another can become a bad habit when entrenched in anxiety-panic. Today Gina takes a look at changes that Matana Williams took to move out of this anxious behavior.

Today's Quote:
Suffering is not holding you. You are holding suffering. When you become good at the art of letting sufferings go, then you’ll come to realize how unnecessary it was for you to drag those burdens around with you. You’ll see that no one else other than you was responsible. The truth is that existence wants your life to become a festival.

So many of our thoughts are subconscious or we are not aware of them and in many many ways that is a good thing. We also tend, when we are challenged with anxiety, to put many thoughts into our subconscious without any awareness of what we are thinking this is adding fuel to our anxious negative thinking.
Today Gina talks about how to use our awareness and consciousness to help erase some of that anxious negativity.

Quote:
The biggest quality in successful people, I think, is an impatience with negative thinking...my feeling was, even if it's as bad as I think it is, we'll make it work.

If you find yourself resistant to what is and your anxiety ramping up try these 4 tips:

1) Let it go; really like holding a hot rock...let go! surrender on a tough day; stop fighting. There is no resolution in the fight so give yourself permission to stop fighting.

2) Float; doesn't require practice, and works better with less force: like an inner inactivity. Remember how to float in the water...you have to relax your muscles and let go...this is just the same!

3) Practice Acceptance: allow the situation to be, it is what it is, it is OK if you can't control the situation. You may not like it but you can accept that it is what is happening.

4) Use the rule of opposites: take the opposite action from what your anxiety is leading you to do.

It may look as if the situation is creating the suffering, but ultimately this is not so - your resistance is.

Coming to terms with the idea that we all as humans have feelings of discomfort, disappointment, and inadequacy we can begin to let go of feeling like victims and have real self-compassion which helps to interrupt the fear -anxiety-fear cycle!

Quote:
When we’re in touch with our common humanity, we remember that feelings of inadequacy and disappointment are universal. This is what distinguishes self-compassion from self-pity. While self-pity says “poor me,” self-compassion recognizes suffering is part of the shared human experience. The pain I feel in difficult times is the same pain that you feel in difficult times. The triggers are different, the circumstances are different, the degree of pain is different, but the basic experience is the same.

How we look at and relate to anxiety had a profound impact on our stress levels. Today we consider bringing more compassion and acceptance to our daily dealings with Mr.Anxiety.

Quote:
Sometimes the door closes on a relationship, not because we failed but because something bigger than us says this no longer fits our life. So, lock the door, shed a tear, turn around and look for the new door that’s opened. It’s a sign that you’re no longer that person you were, it’s time to change into who you are. It’s going to be okay.
